In 2000, Taylor won ASCAP'S R&B and Pop Music Award and a Grammy nomination for the production of Tyrese's hit single, "Sweet Lady". Taylor continues to mentor and collaborate with the best in the industry to include Elijah Blake(Usher), Claude Kelly(Kelly Clarkson) and Johnta, "The Tunesmith" Aus- tin, who has worked with artists such as Mariah Carey, Chris Brown, Britney Spears, Toni Braxton and many more. Taylor began teaching him the funda- mentals of recording which later would result in 2 million copies sold of his debut album with Bad Boy Records. Taylor earned a Grammy Award for each.Īt 17, while attending a church convention in Florida he met and began a friendship with a young man named Carl Thomas, an aspiring singer. He took a more behind-the-scenes approach producing his debut songs, "Little Things" and "Your Love", which were placed on Boyz II Men's debut album, "Cooley High Harmony", which sold over 12 million copies and the 2nd album "II" sold over 20million worldwide. In the midst of working on his al- bum, Taylor decided to change career paths. Shortly after, in 1989 after meeting Motown Records music executive Timmy Regisford he landed a solo artist deal at Motown. Taylor graduated from Hartford Conservatory School in 1988 with a degree in jazz theory and record production. He started by singing in local talent shows and then moved on to playing keyboards and learning how to listen and understand music. Taylor has a love for music that dates back to his childhood years, but it wasn't until the age of 14, that he began tapping into the music world.
His father was an esteemed jazz musician and his grandfather was a gospel music director. He has a family history of talented musi- cians. Troy Taylor was born in New Haven, Connecticut.
